BIOGRAPHY

Who is Earl Baldwin, and how did he become known as “The Wildman”?  Earl is a skilled tradesman (award winning taxidermy, leatherwork, woodwork, blacksmithing and more), an avid Appalachian adventurer, hunter (hog, frog, fish, bear, squirrel and more), musician (trumpet, mandolin, and guitar), engaging storyteller, extreme outdoorsman, and as a former Fireman and EMT, he’s an American Hero.

Here’s Earl in his own words…

“My name is Earl Baldwin.  I am “the Wildman.”  In my prime I could live and thrive back country as long as I wanted with the supplies I brought with me.  I got my nickname honestly bestowed upon me from people I guided backcountry on horseback trips in the Smoky Mountains.  Many the hour has passed with me learning the trees and plants of the forest and the beasts as well.

Technology and politics have polluted this world we live in so much that I have left the jobs I once had for my own businesses, that I operate here on my five-acre farm.  I own “Wildman Craft Emporium” where I create custom works of art and craft using various woodcraft, taxidermy, leather and blacksmithing skills I have honed over the years.  I also own “Wildman Adventure Company” that is a non-profit guide and tour business.  I love to make warriors out of yuppies.  It is my favorite thing to take the tame into the wild!

I am an ordained minister and try my best to live the teachings of Jesus Christ.  This is especially important now in the entertaining I do as a part time television personality.  I am not new to entertaining however, as I had a fulfilling music career for some time where I did Television commercials (one for the Super Bowl even) and had my own radio show at one time!

I do not wish this biography to sound as if I am bragging.  I want it to be known how blessed I have been by God that loves me.  Boredom of this modern day rat race has took me on many grand adventures over the years and I no longer adventure alone!  I have a wonderful wife, Jessica, who is my rock and believes in my schemes in a world that thinks I’ve gone mad!  I am sorry if my bio is not too brief…  In a nutshell, I live by my moniker!  I am the Wildman.  Meet me and See!”

ABOUT THE SHOW

Title:  My American Journey (alternate “My American Journey with Earl Baldwin”)

Catchphrase: “Life’s not about the destination, it’s about the journey”

Logline:  The wild and woolly adventures of Earl “the Wildman” Baldwin and his personal, and often funny, journey with the people and places of Southern Appalachia.

Description:  Each week in this self-contained docu-comedy, Earl “the Wildman” Baldwin adventures on his personal journey through Southern Appalachia in East Tennessee.  The people who have influenced him stand front and center as their stories interweave with his own life story.  The places that made “the Wildman” who he is will be featured as the backdrop as he spins his tales of mountain life with humor and wit.  Life in Appalachia is a discovery of the mountains, streams, lakes, and the beasts inhabiting them.  Young men and women full of dreams and ambition join the journey.  Earl welcomes old-timers filled with wise tales and country legends from Scot-Irish lore, and un-told stories from Cherokee tradition.  The Wildman is a culmination of all of these influences, and each week he will explore this unique world as he continues on his American Journey.

Style:  Shot entirely on location and in the field, with opening introduction, and closing “it’s about the journey” wrap up in every episode in a country setting, and a "best of" gag reel.  Each episode will be interspersed with “Earlisms”, off-the-cuff humor, and witty banter.  There will be a mixture of intimate and personal shots interspersed with up-close and aerial nature photography.  Close-ups of Earl actively engaged in woodworking, leather-crafting, iron working, taxidermy, fishing lure making, etc., are added as bumpers and “quick tips”.

I have watched all of the shows so far and I have one complaint— that there isn’t more! Earl creates an amazing atmosphere for those who want a break from the chaos of living in a modern world and allows us to enjoy the simple things. Although this show is new, it is completely different from any type of southern style documentary I have ever watched. For me, this show represents all of the charm that comes with being born and raised in the country. If you are looking for honesty and authenticity as to what living in the South is truly like, this is the show for you. I’m so glad there are shows like this to bring back representation for Southerners, and why we have so much loyalty to Southern pride. Rambunctious, candid, and refreshingly unpolished. Keep up the good work!

Mountain Man at His Best

February 4, 2019

I loved the videos. I was raised in Haywood County , NC and there's nothing like the mountain stories and love the mountain dialect. It sounds like home. This young man is the real deal. I would love to see more videos.

Loved the first episode and can't wait to see more. Appalachian culture is its own flavor of Southern culture, and storytelling is deeply rooted in our Appalachian heritage. So grateful Earl Baldwin chose to share himself with the world! :)
